Best overall gift: the Leatherman Wave+, an 18-tool pliers multi-tool with a 25-year warranty that Leatherman will personalize. Best stocking stuffer: the Victorinox Classic SD, a 0.8 oz Swiss Army knife with scissors, under $25. Best splurge: the Leatherman ARC, whose tools all open one-handed from outside and lock.
For a flyer or a teen, pick a tool with no blade, such as the Victorinox Jetsetter. Engraving it? Order early: personalized tools from Leatherman and Victorinox can’t be returned. Most unusual gift: a snowflake multi-tool, a one-piece key-ring tool with hex wrenches, screwdrivers and a bottle opener.

Price bands (from US list prices) and warranty terms from each maker’s site, October 2026. The generic snowflake tool and paracord bracelet have no maker list price, so their band comes from typical retail listings. “Blade?” means a knife blade; a bladeless tool can still have a saw or other sharp parts.
How we chose
Nineteen picks are tools we’ve covered in reviews and roundups; two are Leatherman accessories, marked as new. For this October 2026 update (edited by Brian Hamilton), we re-checked every branded pick on its maker’s site: still on sale, list price, warranty terms and, for Leatherman, Victorinox and Gerber, personalization.
From the old list we kept nine and dropped four. The Desuccus snowflake tool has no maker site to check, so a generic snowflake pick replaces it. The Pioneer X Alox and Ranger 55 Grip overlap the Huntsman, and the Crankbrothers M19 and Raptor Rescue suit a cyclist or medic; those two are linked at the end.
New to the list are a paracord bracelet and a Bison belt buckle from our bracelet and belt-buckle roundups, because quirky, wearable tools are what many gift shoppers look for.
How do you pick a multi-tool gift?
Ask three things: who is it for, can it have a blade (planes, schools and many workplaces say no), and will you engrave it (then it can’t be returned)?
| If theyโฆ | Give them | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Carry a tool every day | Leatherman Wave+ | 18 tools; blades and saw open from outside |
| Hate pocket weight | Leatherman Skeletool | Pliers, blade and bit driver at 5 oz |
| Need a stocking filled | Victorinox Classic SD | Scissors, blade and nail file on a key ring |
| Camp, hunt or backpack | Leatherman Signal | Ferro rod, whistle, hammer face, saw |
| Love a classic pocketknife | Victorinox Huntsman | Saw and scissors in a Swiss Army knife |
| Fix things at home or work | Gerber Center-Drive | In-line bit driver takes standard 1/4 in bits |
| Want full-size pliers for less | Gerber Truss | 17 tools in the middle price band |
| Fly often | Victorinox Jetsetter | No blade; scissors and magnetic Phillips |
| Are a teen, or work where knives are banned | Leatherman Knifeless Rebar | Full-size pliers, scissors instead of a knife |
| Are a teen ready for a first knife, with a parent’s OK | Victorinox Tinker | Small blades and drivers; no pliers or saw |
| Already own a Leatherman | Bit Kit Set or Premium Leather Sheath | Leatherman sells the sheath separately |
| Have everything | Leatherman ARC | MagnaCut blade; every tool opens one-handed |
| Love gadgets and conversation pieces | Snowflake multi-tool or Geekey | A snowflake or a key that hides wrenches, drivers and an opener |
Features from each maker’s product page, October 2026.
What’s the best multi-tool gift for an everyday-carry fan?
Pick by where it rides: the Wave+ on a belt, the Skeletool clipped in a pocket, the Classic SD on a key ring.
1. Leatherman Wave+: Best overall gift

The gift for a dad, or anyone, who’ll use it for twenty years. Both blades, the saw and the file open from outside the handles, and every tool locks. Leatherman marks it a bestseller and will add a name or image to it.
On our camping trips the saw cut small limbs and PVC, and the spring-action scissors cut plastic, paper and cardboard cleanly. The sheath is sold separately, so add one.
Key specs: 18 tools ยท 4 in closed ยท 8.5 oz ยท 2.92 in blade ยท replaceable wire cutters ยท 25-year warranty
Pros
- All tools lock
- Blades, saw and file open from outside
- Replaceable wire cutters
- Personalization from Leatherman
Cons
- No sheath in the box
- Takes Leatherman bits, not standard 1/4 in
- Inside tools usually need two hands
- Has a blade, so no carry-on
Skip it if: they fly carry-on only; the Jetsetter has no blade. More in our Leatherman Wave+ review and best Leatherman multi-tools.
2. Leatherman Skeletool: Best lightweight pocket tool

Pliers, wire cutters, a locking blade and a bit driver at 5 oz, with a spare bit in the handle. The carabiner doubles as one of the better bottle openers we’ve used. No saw, scissors or file.
Key specs: 7 tools ยท 4 in closed ยท 5 oz ยท removable pocket clip ยท 25-year warranty ยท personalizable
Skip it if: they want scissors; the Wave+ has them. Our Leatherman Skeletool review covers the CX and RX too.
3. Victorinox Classic SD: Best stocking stuffer

The small Swiss Army knife that fits a stocking and a key ring: a small blade, scissors, a nail file with a screwdriver tip, tweezers and a toothpick. Victorinox offers personalization on it.
The scissors and the nail file’s screwdriver tip are the tools that do the work on a knife this small.
Key specs: 7 functions ยท 2.3 in ยท 0.8 oz ยท blade doesn’t lock ยท lifetime warranty
Pros
- Fits any key ring
- Personalization from Victorinox
- Scissors and nail file on a key ring
Cons
- Blade doesn’t lock
- Tweezers and toothpick get lost
- Has a blade, so no carry-on
Skip it if: they’ll fly with it; the Jetsetter is the same size with no blade. More in our Victorinox Classic SD review.
Which multi-tool should you give a camper or hunter?
A good outdoor gift replaces things they’d otherwise pack: a fire starter, a whistle, a small saw. For field dressing, a dedicated knife still wins; see our best gut hook knives.
4. Leatherman Signal: Best for campers and hunters

Leatherman’s camping tool adds a ferro rod, an emergency whistle, a hammer face and a sharpener to the usual pliers, saw and locking blade. The awl has a thread loop for stitching torn gear.
In our use the needlenose pliers got a good grip on a stuck fish hook or tent stake, and the ferro rod threw plenty of sparks struck with the back of the saw. The hammer won’t drive nails, but it sets tent stakes.
Key specs: 19 tools ยท 4.5 in closed ยท 7.5 oz ยท 25-year warranty ยท personalizable ยท sheath sold separately
Pros
- Fire starter and whistle built in
- Hammer face for tent stakes
- Thread-loop awl
Cons
- The small ferro rod wears out fast
- Sharpener is for touch-ups only
- Leatherman-size bits, not 1/4 in
Skip it if: they car-camp; the Wave+ is the better all-rounder. More in our Leatherman Signal review and best camping multi-tools.
5. Victorinox Huntsman: Best Swiss Army knife gift

The Swiss Army knife most people picture, plus a wood saw, scissors and a multipurpose hook. Victorinox offers personalization on it.
Key specs: 15 functions ยท 3.6 in ยท 3.4 oz ยท blades don’t lock ยท lifetime warranty
Skip it if: they need pliers; the Signal has them. More in our Victorinox Huntsman review and best Swiss Army knife guide.
What’s a good multi-tool gift for a DIYer?
For home repairs, the driver matters more than the blade. One that lines up with the handle and takes the bits they already own beats a dozen extras.
6. Gerber Center-Drive: Best for DIY and trade work

Its 3.2 in bit driver swings out in line with the handle like a real screwdriver and takes standard 1/4 in bits; in our use it worked about as well as a regular bit driver. The nail puller lifted a standard nail. Our gripe: the carbide wire-cutter blades chipped quickly.
Key specs: 14 tools ยท 4.7 in closed ยท 9.5 oz ยท made in USA ยท limited lifetime warranty
Skip it if: pocket weight matters; it’s the heaviest pick. More in our Gerber Center-Drive review and best bit-driver multi-tools.
7. Gerber Truss: Best full-size value

Seventeen tools, including spring-loaded pliers, scissors, a saw and an awl, in the middle price band. The tools don’t open one-handed.
Key specs: 17 tools ยท 4.4 in closed ยท 8.4 oz ยท sheath included ยท limited lifetime warranty
Skip it if: they want a bit driver; get the Center-Drive. More in our Gerber Truss review.
Which multi-tool gift can a traveler take on a plane?
Only one with no knife blade. TSA allows a multi-tool in carry-on if it has no blade, any scissors are under 4 in from the pivot, and it’s 7 in or shorter; the officer has the final say. Our bladeless TSA-compliant multi-tool guide checks each tool part by part.
8. Victorinox Jetsetter: Best for flying

A Swiss Army knife with the blade left out: scissors, a magnetic Phillips driver, a bottle opener, tweezers and a toothpick. In our earlier review the scissors handled paper and thin plastic, and the magnet holds a screw while you start it. Victorinox offers personalization on it too.
Key specs: 7 functions ยท 2.3 in ยท 0.8 oz ยท no blade ยท lifetime warranty
Skip it if: they need a flathead or a pry bar; the Shard has both.
9. Gerber Shard: Best budget gift

One of the cheapest picks: a one-piece keychain tool with a pry bar, three drivers, a wire-stripper notch and a bottle opener, and nothing to fold or break. Gerber lists it as “Airline Safe”.
Key specs: 7 functions ยท 3.5 in ยท 1.0 oz ยท no blade ยท limited lifetime warranty
Skip it if: they want scissors (Jetsetter). More in our Gerber Shard review.
What’s a good first multi-tool for a teenager?
Start bladeless, or start with a parent. Rules on minors and knives vary by place, and schools set their own, so check both before you wrap one; we aren’t giving legal advice. A bladeless tool can still break a school’s rule on tools, so agree where it lives.
- Show how each tool opens, locks (or doesn’t) and closes.
- Cut away from the body, and close a blade before passing the tool.
- For the youngest, the Jetsetter and Shard above have no blade at all.
10. Leatherman Knifeless Rebar: Best no-knife tool

Full-size Leatherman pliers with spring-action scissors where the knives would be, made for job sites that don’t allow knife blades. The scissors cut paper, plastic and cardboard cleanly for our writers. It still has a saw, an awl and wire cutters, so teach it like a real tool.
Key specs: 16 tools ยท 4 in closed ยท 6.7 oz ยท 25-year warranty ยท no personalization ยท sheath sold separately
Skip it if: they’ll fly carry-on; the saw keeps it out. Our Leatherman Rebar review covers the shared frame.
11. Victorinox Tinker: Best first pocketknife

If the family agrees they’re ready for a blade, a gentle start: two small blades, three screwdrivers, can and bottle openers and an awl, with no pliers or saw.
The blades don’t lock, so a push the wrong way can fold one onto fingers. Show them how to hold it.
Key specs: 12 functions ยท 3.6 in ยท 2.2 oz ยท lifetime warranty
Skip it if: the school or household says no blades; give the Jetsetter. More in our Victorinox Tinker review.
What do you get a multi-tool lover who has everything?
Upgrade the tool they carry, or add to it. Every Leatherman multi-tool here comes without a sheath, so a good sheath or a bit kit fits what they already own.
12. Leatherman ARC: Best splurge

Leatherman calls it its most advanced multi-tool: a MagnaCut steel blade, and every tool opens from outside with one hand and locks, thanks to its magnetic FREE design. Leatherman tags it a best gift and will personalize it.
The bit driver takes Leatherman bits; Leatherman’s Bit Kit (below) adds 42 tips.
Key specs: 20 tools ยท 4.25 in closed ยท 8.6 oz ยท 2.76 in MagnaCut blade ยท 25-year warranty ยท sheath sold separately
Pros
- MagnaCut blade holds an edge
- Every tool outside, one-handed, locking
- Personalization from Leatherman
Cons
- The most expensive pick
- 8.6 oz is heavy in a pocket
- More tool than a casual user needs
Skip it if: they use a tool now and then; the Wave+ does the same jobs. More in our Leatherman ARC review and best premium multi-tools.
13. Leatherman Bit Kit Set: Best add-on for a Leatherman owner
New in this update. We haven’t used this one ourselves; it’s here on its maker’s specs.
21 double-ended bits, 42 tips in all, for Leatherman tools with a bit driver, such as the Wave+, Signal, Skeletool and ARC.
Key specs: 21 double-ended bits ยท eyeglass bit fits ARC, Wave and Charge only ยท not covered by the 25-year warranty
Skip it if: their tool takes standard 1/4 in bits, like the Center-Drive.
New in this update. We haven’t used this one ourselves; it’s here on its maker’s specs and owner reviews.
Full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather with a pocket for the multi-tool and one for a knife or flashlight, plus a clip that goes on without taking the belt off. Owners on Leatherman’s site fit a Surge in the large and an ARC, snugly, in the medium.
Key specs: medium or large ยท black or dark brown ยท 2-year limited warranty
Skip it if: you don’t know which tool they carry; a Leatherman gift card avoids the guess.
What’s a fun or unusual multi-tool gift?
One shaped like something else: a snowflake, a credit card, a house key, a bracelet or a belt buckle. All but the belt are under $25. The branded picks have no knife blade, though most have a box-cutter or cord-cutter edge, so read each “Good to know” line before one goes on a plane.
15. Snowflake multi-tool: Best novelty gift

A flat steel snowflake whose points are hex wrenches, screwdrivers, a bottle opener and a box cutter, with a hole for a key ring. Our snowflake multi-tool roundup notes little difference between brands, so pick by finish and size.
Good to know: it’s a generic design sold under many names, such as the Desuccus 18-in-1 from our old list. None has a maker site we could check, so specs and warranty depend on the seller. With a box-cutter edge, check with the officer before a flight.
16. Wallet Ninja: Best for a wallet

A credit-card-size steel tool with 19 functions, including hex wrenches, screwdrivers, bottle and can openers and a nail puller. When we tested the 2.0 (the same tools plus a mirror and nail file), it felt sturdier than most card tools, and the nail puller really did pull small nails.
Good to know: Wallet Ninja calls it TSA approved for US domestic flights, but it has a box opener and a letter opener, so check with the officer. It has a lifetime guarantee. More in our Wallet Ninja review and credit card multi-tool roundup.
17. Geekey: Best for a key ring

A stainless steel tool cut in the shape of a house key, so it rides on a key ring without looking like a gadget. Geekey lists 16-plus functions at 0.77 oz, including a bike spoke key, a wrench, a wire stripper, a can opener and a bottle opener.
Good to know: Geekey calls it knifeless and TSA-friendly, but it also lists a box cutter and a serrated edge, so it isn’t one of our carry-on picks; pack it in a checked bag or ask the officer. More in our Geekey review.
18. Nite Ize DoohicKey Key Tool: Best key-clip tool

Among the cheapest picks here: a key-size stainless tool with a box cutter, a flathead screwdriver, three wrenches, inch and centimeter rulers and a bottle opener, plus a carabiner clip that holds the keys. The DoohicKey+ adds a Phillips driver, a nail puller and a serrated edge in the same price band.
Good to know: Nite Ize calls it TSA friendly, but it has a box cutter, so check with the officer. It’s backed by Nite Ize’s Worry Free Guarantee. More in our Nite Ize DoohicKey review and best keychain multi-tools.
19. SOG MacV Tool: Best for a knife owner

A skull-shaped, 12-function one-piece tool: pry bar, bottle opener, three drivers, three wrenches, a hex bit driver, a line cutter and a carbide blade sharpener. In our keychain multi-tool roundup we singled out that sharpener for putting a field edge on a knife, and rated its bottle opener among the best on keychain tools.
Good to know: SOG backs it with a lifetime warranty and makes no airline claim; with a line cutter on board, check with the officer. More in our SOG MacV review.
20. Paracord survival bracelet: Best wearable

A woven band of 550 paracord that unravels into usable cord, with a buckle that usually adds a ferro rod and striker, a whistle or a compass. Leatherman’s Tread bracelets are retired, so the picks left in our multi-tool bracelet roundup are paracord models.
Good to know: those are mostly Amazon brands with no maker site we could check, and our roundup rates their tools as useful mainly in a wilderness emergency. Some add a small blade or razor, so read the listing before giving one to a child.
21. Bison Designs Kool Tool belt: Best belt buckle tool

A nylon webbing belt whose steel buckle is the tool: hex wrenches, three screwdrivers, a box cutter, a wire stripper, rulers and a bottle opener. In our belt-buckle roundup the opener was angled to pop a bottle without undoing the belt, though the broad flatheads didn’t fit every screw.
Good to know: it comes in medium, large and extra-large (to a 46 in waist) and the tail trims to fit, so size up if unsure. Bison’s warranty runs one year. The buckle has a box cutter, so ask the officer before wearing it through security.
Which multi-tool brands have the best warranty?
On paper, Victorinox and Gerber (lifetime) beat Leatherman (25 years). All three cover defects, not wear, loss or misuse, and the fine print matters for a gift.
| Maker | How long | Who it covers | Not covered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leatherman | 25 years “from the date the user receives the tool” | Original or primary owner; proof of purchase from an authorized dealer may be required | Abuse, loss, theft, rust, finishes, laser marking; most accessories |
| Victorinox | Lifetime of the product | End-user purchaser; bought from Victorinox or an authorized seller | Normal wear, cosmetic damage, misuse; pouches get 2 years; a handling fee may apply |
| Gerber | Limited lifetime | Material and manufacturing defects | Loss, theft, worn black coatings |
Sources: Leatherman warranty policy, Victorinox Lifetime Warranty (effective 1 Feb 2024), Gerber FAQ and product pages, read October 2026.
What a multi-tool warranty covers: defects in materials and manufacture, repaired or replaced at the maker’s choice. It won’t replace a lost tool, and Leatherman excludes rust. For a gift, buy from the maker or an authorized seller and put the gift receipt in the box.
Did you know? Leatherman’s 25-year warranty starts the day the user receives the tool, not the day you buy it. A Wave+ unwrapped on 25 December 2026 is covered until 25 December 2051.
Can you get a multi-tool engraved?
Yes, from two of the three main makers here, and personalizing a tool changes the return rules.
- Leatherman: the Wave+, Skeletool, Signal and ARC take your text or image; the Knifeless Rebar doesn’t. Custom or engraved orders can’t be cancelled, returned or exchanged.
- Victorinox: the Classic SD, Jetsetter and Huntsman offer engraving or custom scales, by model; the Tinker doesn’t. Personalized knives can’t be returned, and Victorinox says its personalization doesn’t affect the warranty.
- Gerber: its custom shop lists only knives, none of our Gerber picks.
Mind the calendar. Leatherman estimates delivery in 4โ15 business days and adds 2โ4 for customization, so the slow case is 19 business days: order by Thanksgiving (26 November) to have it by Christmas Eve. Victorinox’s US personalization page lists no lead time.
Which Leatherman makes the best gift?
The Wave+ for most people, the Skeletool for light carry, the Signal for campers and the ARC as the upgrade. In the middle price band, the spring-action Wingman and the Micra keychain tool are the starter Leathermen.
If a gift list names the Style PS, FREE P2, P4 or T4, Juice or Tread, those are retired; Leatherman’s own pages mark them discontinued. Torn between brands? See Leatherman vs Victorinox.
What’s a good multi-tool stocking stuffer?
The under-$25 picks: the Classic SD if a small blade is fine, the Jetsetter or Shard if it isn’t. For a gadget fan, the snowflake tool, Wallet Ninja, Geekey, DoohicKey, SOG MacV and paracord bracelet in the fun-gift section are under $25 too.
